Puppeteer proxy setup
About this tool
Puppeteer is an open-source JavaScript/TypeScript library maintained by the Chrome team that provides a high-level API to control Chrome and Firefox over the DevTools Protocol (CDP) or WebDriver BiDi. Puppeteer provides a JavaScript API for controlling Chrome and Firefox through browser automation protocols. It can run without a visible window and is suited to repeatable page interactions, rendering, and tests. Proxy configuration is applied to the browser process used by the script.
Key capabilities
Headless browser rendering & inspection: Runs headless by default (or headful when needed) to execute client-side JavaScript, manipulate DOM elements, intercept network requests, capture screenshots, generate PDFs, and record performance traces.
- JavaScript browser control:Puppeteer drives Chrome and Firefox through APIs for navigation, clicking, form entry and script execution. Headless operation, screenshots and PDF generation make it useful for automated testing, rendered content and website reports.
- Headless execution:Code controls browser processes and pages, with browser contexts available to separate work. Unlike a direct HTTP client, it executes page JavaScript and interacts with a rendered website, which also means managing browser resources and appropriate waiting conditions.
Where it fits
For scheduled screenshots, a script can define navigation, content readiness, image output and error handling together. Configure the proxy for the browser actually launched and handle authentication accordingly; changing the Node.js process connection alone may not cover the browser’s traffic.
- Dynamic SPA scraping & UI testing: Ideal for extracting data from JavaScript-heavy single-page applications, automating form submissions, generating visual reports, and running automated browser checks.
- Configure proxies per browser instance via `--proxy-server` in `puppeteer.launch()` and supply credentials with `page.authenticate()`; Datacenter proxies are recommended for high-speed, cost-efficient rendering and public crawling.
