Scrapy proxy setup
About this tool
Scrapy is an open-source, asynchronous Python web crawling and data extraction framework built on the Twisted event-driven networking engine. Scrapy is an asynchronous Python framework for scheduling crawl requests, extracting structured data, and processing results through pipelines. Its extensible architecture lets developers add middleware and integrations, including browser rendering when required, while keeping the core crawling workflow organized in code.
Key capabilities
Asynchronous architecture & middleware pipelines: Coordinates an Engine, Scheduler, Downloader, Spiders, and Item Pipelines using non-blocking I/O for high concurrency, with built-in CSS/XPath selectors and extensible Downloader Middlewares.
- Asynchronous crawling:Scrapy spiders define starting points and parsing logic, while the scheduler and downloader coordinate requests and responses. Extracted items enter pipelines for processing such as cleaning, validation, deduplication or storage.
- Structured extraction and pipelines:Middleware extends request and download behavior, including proxy assignment or custom retry handling. The framework centers on HTTP requests and responses; tasks requiring browser JavaScript rendering need a suitable additional browser integration.
Where it fits
For recurring collection of catalogs or public articles, separate link discovery, field extraction and output processing so site changes can be handled locally. Manage proxies through requests or downloader middleware and verify their behavior alongside concurrency, timeouts and task logs.
- Large-scale catalog crawling & structured ETL: Designed for continuous e-commerce catalog extraction, price monitoring, and structured dataset pipelines that validate, deduplicate, and store items automatically.
- Assigns HTTP(S) proxies via `request.meta["proxy"]` or custom Downloader Middlewares; pairing with high-bandwidth, unlimited-traffic Datacenter proxies is recommended for high-concurrency crawls.
