Proxifier proxy setup
About this tool
Proxifier is an advanced system-level proxy client for Windows and macOS that forces network applications without built-in proxy settings to operate through SOCKS or HTTPS proxies. Proxifier handles proxy routing at the application connection level. Rules can send selected applications or destinations through SOCKS or HTTPS proxies and proxy chains, including applications without built-in proxy settings. This makes network routing configurable without changing each application.
Key capabilities
Application routing rules & proxy chains: Intercepts network connections at the socket level, allowing granular rules based on executable name, target hostname, IP range, and port (route via proxy, direct, or block), while supporting multi-hop proxy chains and remote DNS resolution through the proxy.
- Application-based routing:Proxifier routes application connections, including those from software without its own proxy settings. Rules can match application names, target hosts, IP addresses and ports, then route a connection through a proxy or chain, allow it directly or block it.
- Proxy chains:It operates at the network connection layer rather than managing website accounts or browser fingerprints. SOCKS and HTTPS proxies can be combined into chains; every hop contributes to latency, and an unavailable node can interrupt the whole connection.
Where it fits
To route one desktop client while leaving other software on its usual connection, create a rule for that application. Inspect connection records while the target software runs to confirm the correct rule is used, rather than testing only whether the proxy server is reachable.
- Proxifying desktop apps & dev tools: Ideal for routing specific desktop clients, emulators, SSH/RDP sessions, or local scripts that lack native proxy menus, complete with real-time connection monitoring and traffic diagnostics.
- Fully supports SOCKS4, SOCKS5, and HTTPS protocols with username/password authentication; best paired with Static Native Residential or ISP proxies to provide low-latency, dedicated exits for desktop workflows.
